Marie Antoinette was born November 2, 1755 in Vienna, Austria. She was the youngest and most pleasing daughter of Francis Stephen I and Maria Theresa Emperor and Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. Marie Antoinette was brought up believing her destiny was to become queen of France, the hope of forging an alliance with the two countries. She married the crown prince of France in 1770. Four years later she became queen when her husband was crowned King Louis XVI

One of the most bright facets of this two-hour special on Marie Antoinette was that she never said the celebrated line “let them eat cake.” In fact, the abominable Marie was remarkably naive about the needs of the French peasantry and even about her adopted country. Living in a secluded life in the palace of Versailles, she had never seen the sea and spent most of her short life confined within the walls of the palace and gardens.

This consuming documentary, which aired on PBS last night - in preparation for Sofia Coppola’s big-screen dramatization, starring Kirsten Dunst - expels many of the myths associated with this deeply misunderstood Queen. She was indeed only a child - impartial fifteen - when her mother Maria Theresa married her off to the teenage Prince Louis.

Naive about the role of a Queen, Marie a woman of mammoth charm and beauty, spent great of her time gambling and partying, spending money from the public coffers, oblivious to who paid for it all. The fact that Louis was Unable to make a heir was a source of stout consternation in the court, and as the years went by with composed no child, Marie found an outlet by building a private world on the Versailles grounds, Le Petit Trianon, a private retreat where she could regain encourage to nature.

Children did eventually approach, but it didn’t encourage the region of the monarchy, especially in the eyes of the public, who viewed Marie and her moneyed dalliances as responsible for noteworthy of the crises in the country. Louis was an incompetent and bumbling King, who found it hard to get decisions. With the political and social ideology of France quick changing, Louis and Marie were urged to limit their power, and relieve contribute to forming a constitutional monarchy but they remained stubbornly tied to the strictures of the past.

Marie offended many of the nobles, adding their denunciation to the tainted stories spread by royal hopefuls. It was the nobility that balked at the financial reforms the government ministers tried to acquire, not the King and Queen, who were in favor of change. In truth, Antoinette and Louis’ fate were sealed by the irrevocable march of history, innocent porn’s caught up in the winds of change.

Both Louis and Marie ended up guillotined, but in the meantime Marie grew as a woman, a mother and a monarch, the irony being that she was distinguished more of a Queen when she was stripped of her royal space and awaiting trial in Paris.

Actress Blair Brown narrates this though-provoking film, while historians Antonia Fraser, Simon Schama, Evelyne Lever, Antoine de Baecque and Fanny Cosandey and novelist Chantal Thomas provide worthy of the engaging chronicle about the tragic life of this fair and remarkable misconstrued woman. Mike Leonard September 06.

This documentary on Marie Antoinette was noble. When I turned it on, I was glued to the cover. I procure the fact that this documentary does not demonstrate many actors completely acting out a scene, but along with the narrators and novel paintings of the past, you can portray the whole fable in your mind. In other words, the paintings and the pictures of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI told everything of what had happened. It is fair like reading a funny book without text. You can honest weave the narrate together yourself. I did not regret ordering this two hour film on Marie Antoinette, and I suggest that whoever is keen about France’s history, should not miss the life memoir of Marie Antoinette

If you’re tired of mountainous hollywood horrors with their formulaic plots and calculated frights, you might want to try this dinky movie. State in Eastern Europe, shot in Scotland, starring Ray Stevenson and costing a diminutive over £1 million, you might be pleasantly surprised at the quality of this movie. Salubrious tension is offset with sparing gore. Ample gun battles and some Nazi voodoo technology thrown in for friendly measure develop this micro-budget misfortune well worth watching. There are some spacious characters from all over the world dying in some really creative ways and some blooming faulty baddies lurking in a dazzling scary environment.

Why not bypass the hollywood dross and witness how a bunch of interested Scottish film-makers do things. Sizable fun stuff.

Outpost is vast shrimp film - I bought it on a whim, as the memoir synopsis was enchanting to me. I was consistently surprised at what a solid and scrumptious film it truly is - well written, well shot, and well acted. The characters are compelling, and avoid the narrow, one-dimensional macho posturing that most slothful filmmakers have characterizes military life. At the same time, it effectively captures the consequences of that violent profession on the people that resolve to manufacture it their life’s work. The apprehension element is very effective, making maximum employ of the setting to do some staunch scares - and I would particularly commend the create up and costuming, which are very effective and essentially seamless (never apparent even though they are depicting some knowing subject matter) . The core narrative is an racy and modern twist on a subject other films have touched on - and the ending, while not exactly unexpected, is effectively delivered. I was prepared for a made-for-SciFi Channel kind of flick, and can only say that it is head and shoulders above that level - a incredible example of what talented filmmakers can do with fixed resources as long as they have a moral passion for the sage they’re telling. It comes through here. Give it a leer, it’s well worth your time.

Additional photos grace the abet shroud of each case, as well as more Van Dyke Expose pictures (and a complete “Scene Selections” list for each of that platter’s 6 or 7 episodes) on the inside of every case. (These plastic cases are the “obvious” type, so you can read the “Scene” listing on the inside front covers moral through the plastic.)

The assist of each of these slim cases provides rapidly at-your-fingertips info about each explain on that disc — such as: Fleshy episode titles; Film dates; Unusual CBS-TV air dates; Brief episode descriptions; Plus some crew credits (”Written by” and “Directed by” notations) . The 158 episodes are arranged here by “Production” (or “Film Date”) order, instead of an “Air Date” chronology.*

* = With one (very wise) exception being Episodes 157 and 158. “The Gunslinger” was actually the last (158th) Van Dyke episode to be filmed; with “The Last Chapter” being the final episode that was aired, in June 1966. So, for safe continuity sake, Image Entertainment has flipped the order of these two episodes on the last disc of Season #5 — with “The Last Chapter” being presented as the final reveal of the series.

More Packaging Notes — The 25 individually-cased discs in this Mega-Set are placed side-by-side inside a vast outer “slipcase” box.

Image Entertainment distributed five separate season-by-season “Dick Van Dyke Indicate” DVD boxed sets in 2003 and 2004, with each of those five sets featuring a 5-Disc slipcase box. However, those individual seasonal slipcases from each of the previously-released Van Dyke seasons are NOT included in this Mega-Set.

Many, many supplemental bonus features are also included on these twenty-five Digital Discs, including: Audio Commentary tracks for many episodes, along with cast interviews, modern TV commercials, Emmy Award snippets, documentaries, featurettes, photo galleries, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage, Easter Eggs, trivia games, CBS-TV promos, and gobs of other puny racy extra tidbits besides! There are even full-length TV-show bonuses included on selected discs, including a complete episode of “The Danny Thomas Present” (which has Van Dyke Note character “Buddy Sorrell” popping up) .

Other complete TV-show extras include the unique “Pilot” episode for “The Dick Van Dyke Point To” (called “Head Of The Family”) ; plus a full-length 46-minute CBS-TV documentary made in the mid-1990s (”The Dick Van Dyke Indicate Remembered”) ; and an absolutely-outstanding and ultra-fun-to-watch TV game explain entitled “Stump The Stars” (aka: “Mike Stokey’s Pantomime Question”), which has several Van Dyke Exhibit cast members playing a consuming charades game. Vast, stout fun!

If you want to know the stout details regarding each and every petite bonus extra you can interrogate to earn on these 25 discs, you can scrutinize out my extensive reviews for each of the separate Van Dyke Note boxed sets here at Amazon.com. If you type in “VAN DYKE Demonstrate SEASON” while searching under “DVDs” here at Amazon, you’ll collect a convenient and handy search result that places links to all five of the Van Dyke seasonal sets on fair one webpage for easy reference.

Pull out any one of these 25 discs and you’ll have some substantial shows, including all of Buy Petrie’s inimitable physical comedy bits — not to mention Dick Van Dyke’s unsurpassed ability to act out a “one-way telephone conversation” (which always amazes me when I sight him do this — and there are many such “telephone” moments during the series) . Then, too, via this astounding boxed station, you’ll also salvage every one of Laura Petrie’s (Mary Tyler Moore) “crying jags”, plus all the standout “Acquire & Laura dancing and singing” scenes. And don’t forget about all those “Buddy insults Mel” gags (which must number in the hundreds over the course of the series) .

Just suffice it to say that I care for this television program. …. Its humor is timeless. The characters seem “dependable” and “non-phony”. And the writing is worthy. And you’ll be able to contemplate why when you pop in any of these wonderfully-restored Digital Versatile Discs.

“THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW: THE COMPLETE SERIES” DVD collection is, without fright of argument, a “complete adore”.

… what the Beatles were to pop music! Already available on DVD as separate seasons, this boxed dwelling puts the entire 158 episodes under one roof. It’s no exaggeration to dwelling that THE DICK VAN DYKE Present came as cessation to perfection as status comedies could be. Any plot that you want to spy at it, this expose was state-of-the-art! The cast was shimmering without exception, from the Petrie family (Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Larry Mathews) to Rob’s co-workers (Morey Amsterdam, Rose Marie, Richard Deacon), their neighbors, and a who’s-who of guest stars (Don Rickles, Greg Morris, Jerry Van Dyke, etc.) who contributed to the humor without upstaging the regulars.

Not to mention Carl Reiner, who not only was effective on-screen but very creative behind-the-scenes. He merely invented the expose, for one. In fact, another ingredient that places the note on a pedestal is the quality of the writing. Amazingly, there is a consistency over the thirty-plus episodes (multiplied by five years) that makes me hard-pressed to reflect of even one subpar reveal in this series (”The Twizzle,” maybe? ) . Distinct, some shows stand out: the walnut episode, Alan Brady’s wig disclosure by Laura, the “inferior baby” episode, and so on. Yet every reveal is a delight to gawk again and again. The humor is genuinely witty and most of the topics are mild relevant even today. In fact, I sometimes consider that watching the map Steal and Laura realistically dealt with a wide range of human emotions (jealousy, etc.) and marital situations (misunderstandings, etc.) was probably an effective early acquire of marital counseling for many viewers.

Yes, the demonstrate is of its time: you’ll acquire yourself dropped good in the center of the early-1960s, moral on the brink of changing attitudes regarding gender, hurry, marriage, etc. Pick and Laura slept in separate beds? Yeah, good. Not to mention Laura wore the capri pants in the family. Yet the show’s overall vision elevated it to timeless site. The series’ style may be dated to the era in which it was created, but the substance remains relevant and laugh-at-loud comical even four decades after their modern broadcasts. Other reviewers have remarked on all of the DVD extras, mammoth video quality, etc. All of that is significant, but the bottom line is the greatness of the exhibit itself. It seems as if every t.v. note that ever existed is being reissued on DVD, moreso than anyone could possibly have time to search for. You’ll want to fabricate time for THE DICK VAN DYKE Explain, though!

Love this explain, too. I wasn’t determined how it was supposed to work after the pilot but it really did. The stories are favorable, the dialogues witty, luminous and to the point, the characters are involving and the mix of comedy, thriller & action is very well balanced.

Season 2 is being shot april-october so the first recent episodes will air in summer, by the arrangement.

The seasons are shorter than usual, somewhere between 12 and 16 episodes I have, but the budget must be as astronomical as for 22 episodes because each on feels like a minute blockbuster. So for those of you who missed the display so far, derive it ASAP!!!

This series features a new day Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men — or in this case, men and women — pulling off cons, capers, and heists that redress wrongs, return ill-gotten gains to their rightful owners, and also pad the pockets of our heroes.

Though it’s tempting to focus on the expedient cast, who do a uniformly stellar job with the scripts, the greatest strength of this reveal is in the writing. The stories are focused as grand on revelation and development of the characters and their histories and interactions as on the clever and bright plots. The characters are given depth and dimension — not to mention humor — and the viewer finds as considerable to care about in each of them as in how the caper of the week will play out.

An outstanding opening season for this modern series. Not to be missed.

I saw this film on theatrical release in and was very disappointed. Of course, alot of the disappointment initially had to do with the amazing hype build-up that accompanied the unusual trilogy. Nothing could have lived up to the public’s expectations.

That having been said, The Phantom Menace is disappointing not so mighty because it stinks, but because, I fell, with some additional tweaking, it could have been noteworthy noteworthy better. Its almost as if Lucas got the location ideas and character concepts developed to a schematic level and then sort of lost interest in them and did not produce them any further.

Specific gripes:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Menace! Click Here

1. We never really bond with or understand Qui-Gon’s character or his relationship with young Anakin. He states that he thinks Anakin may be the chosen one, but that is not really sufficient. We need to discover an emotional bond or some kind of identification between the two, but it unprejudiced isn’t there.

2. Not to hold on Jake Lloyd (he’s probably a huge kid), but Lucas or whoever honest did not earn a reliable performance out of him. Plus, there is no hint in young Anakin at this point of character traits or flaws that might later foreshadow his plunge. Yoda says he sees enrage and apprehension in Anakin and the Jedi Council beget vague predications that he may eventually be risky, but we as audience members impartial don’t watch it. We are supposed to infer that Anakin is somehow damaged by his life as as slave and subsequent separation from his mother, but again, we don’t look any of this. His life as a slave doesn’t seem to exhibit any hardship; his gigantic scene saying goodbye to his mom is not particularly captivating (mainly due to wooden acting by Lloyd; Pernilla August as his mom does a beneficial job notion) . Also, if he’s a slave, how does he have time/resources to gain robots and pod racers? Unbiased not very lawful to life.

Perhaps if we had seen Anakin and/or his mom subjected to some sort of abuse or exploitation we would have a better indication both of the dismay and exasperate in Anakin and also a potential emotional reason for why Qui-Gon wants to rescue Anakin. When I reflected on it, I conception it would almost be better if Anakin were like the feral boy in Road Warrior II: an unkempt, unclean, and agressive character that had to be somewhat tamed and civilized by his Jedi rescuers. We don’t view any character flaws, any diminutive hints of selfishness, arouse, dismay or frustration. As is, young Anakin is honest an average cute kid; we don’t peer any depth to why he wants to dash his life as a slave or hasten off to join the Jedi so we don’t really care.

3. Source of humor: The recent series had a mix of humor based upon the droids 3PO and R2D2 and also with the human characters (primarily interactions between Solo, Leia, and Luke) . In TPM, the vital source of humor is generated from droids and Jar Jar Binks with runt or no comic banter or interaction between human characters. This has two effects: 1) relying on computer-generated characters for humor means the indispensable manufacture of humor becomes physical slapstick, which is one of the main complaints about the Jar Jar charcter; and 2) the interactions between the human main characters, when deprived of humor, makes their relationships seem dry and mechanical, another source of the shallow characterizations.

The one amusing moment that stands out is when, after being ambushed by the Trade Feds at the beginning, Obi-Won says to Qui-Gon with a wry smile: “Well, you were upright about one thing Master….the negotiations were short!” This one moment stands out because it is one of the few jokes between human characters and it works and expresses some of Obi-Won’s personality. It also effectively echoes some of the banter and attitude that made Solo’s character so liekable and crucial to the new films, an attitude and sensibility that is lacking in TPM. As is, we are stuck with Jar Jar’s pratfalls for yuks, and it objective doesn’t work unless you are 5 years primitive.

4. The shallowness of Darth Maul: Similar to other problems with character depth, we don’t know enough about Maul. He says early in the film that at last he will have revenge on the Jedi. Revenge for what? We never know beyond vague notions that the Sith and Jedi are feeble enemies. That is not enough. We either need to be shown more encourage legend on this or have some reason for Maul’s motivation. His fight scenes with the Jedi at the waste are dynamite and clearly the actor is very skilled in martial arts and projects a menacing attitude with only minimal dialog or camouflage time, but we never really know anything about him other than “he is a abominable guy” and that is not enough.

5. Region goofiness. As others have pointed out, all the midi-chlorian business is a red herring of mumbo-jumbo that takes the mystical mystery out of the Force and reduces it to a medical condition. The Jedi are supposed to be wise, mighty seers, but them seem oblivious to the presence and intentions of the awful guys over and over again. Having young Anakin make C3PO is comic and seems like a forced “cricle closer”. Further, having Anakin originate out on Tatooine doesn’t seem good and seems liek another circle closer that is forced. Wouldn’t he remember all this years later as Darth Vader in Episode 4? Wouldn’t there be some result of this coincidence? As famed above, having a slave that doesn’t seem to be deprived or suffering and has the time/resources to develop robots and pod racers as a hobby seems goofy too.

Again, it seemed to me like Lucas got the site and characters to a positive point and then cease on them. With only a tiny extra distress or different emphasis on clear elements, the movie could have been remarkable improved and the audience would have had more insight into the characters and identified with them more. As is, the lack of character development combined with wooden acting makes it hard for the audience to care. The special effects region pieces are spectacular, and the computer generated elements are pioneering and well executed, but without a reason to care about or like the characters, its hard to salvage too enraged.

Again, not a gross movie, but frustrating because with fair a few changes or extra peril, it could have been so grand better.

Int. evening - A dimly lit room.

George: The movie must have a child-friendly funny relief, and we also need some clever doll to sell afterwards… hmmmmm… Jar Jar Binks!

George: Wait it can’t be too child-friendly or we’ll loose the fans! Throw Maul into the ring, oooooh he’s scary… hmmmm… we’ll prick his dialogue down to three lines so the action figure can own them all!

George: Liam Neeson is starting to complain about his lame character and dialogue… hmmmm… let’s unprejudiced give him a estimable death at the extinguish of the movie… wait we’ve already done that.. aaah what the hell! Everybody loves a cliché!

George: Wait! The script is a microscopic thin… hmmmmmmm… Wait I beget this chilly Special FX company they’ll possess out the holes!

George: All the frosty authors have expanded my universe making it diverse and gleaming… but let’s fair focus on places we know… like Tatooine!

George: Anakin is really shiny… we’ll let him perform C-3PO… wait why doesn’t Vader look him later? Oh yes… he’s unbiased been ignoring him… heh heh…

George: Oh yeah I’ve also invented these midiclorieans… which they for some peculiar reason haven’t heard about in the fresh episodes… well the knowledge has objective been lost in the big Jedi massacres later on!

*George continues like this for months*

Actually I’m a Star Wars fan… and I like Episode I because of the chilly action scenes, spectacular special FX and I actually don’t consider that the acting is so awful, and Jar Jar is resplendent droll at times. I objective have this love/hate thing for this episode. The whole Star Wars spirit, the innovation tedious the worn trilogy has been replaced by some kind of Disney oriented commercial family pack! To distinguished money (minus 1 star) too tiny creativity (minus 1 star) … and George you better clone Darth Maul in Episode II and execute it bloody and putrid for Anakin, and realease the current episodes on DVD (and not do 6000 special editions), or I’ll reduce off that beard of yours while you sleep! Frogs is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download Frogs

The 1970’s were loaded with forgotten films where nature struck support at man because of his mingling with pollution, poison or sheer carelessness (”Grizzly” - Jaws on Land, “Night of the Lepus” - giant killer rabbits), but “Frogs” stands out because it did not seize itself too seriously and the cast which was headed by 50’s star Ray Milland seemed to appreciate themselves filming it. Ray Milland heads a grand family in the south which is gathering to celebrate his birthday. But for some reason the ole homestead seems to be bombarded with frogs and other bayou wildlife, so Papa Milland attempts to extinguish them through whatever means he can including poison. Vast mistake, it seems the frogs are not too jubilant about this and along with their reptile friends, including some unfavorable alligators, catch off the family members one by one. Although at times more hilarious than thrilling, “Frogs” does have a few chills and if you are looking for one of those obedient obsolete drive-in movie types, this will do the trick. The cast is mainly a mix of B list actors including the usually wooden Sam Elliot, who seemed to appear in almost every other 70’s flick. Judy Trek as a kooky clan member catching butterflies is hilarious. Rarely shown on television, (and then it is edited) recall up this nature versus man flick and indulge in.

I can’t beget it…I actually found proof that at some point in his life, actor Sam Elliot did not, I relate, did not have gray hair…it appears his natural color was brown. I only mention this because it seems nearly every film I’ve seen him in, he’s got those thick, silvery locks. Directed by George McCowan (The Resplendent Seven Skedaddle!), Frogs (1972) stars the aforementioned Elliot (Road House, Tombstone), Academy Award winner Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend), and primetime soap goddess Joan Van Ark (”Knots Landing”), in her feature film debut. Also appearing is Adam Roarke (The Stunt Man), Judy Stir (Brian’s Song), Lynn Borden (Murky Mama, White Mama), David Gilliam (The Eagle Has Landed), George Skaff (Detroit 9000), and Holly Irving (Glass Houses) .

As the film begins we explore a man (whom we later learn is named Pickett Smith, played by Elliot) in a canoe, floating around in a swampy place, taking photographs of the local wildlife. Soon afterwards he turns his camera’s scrutinize towards all the pollution…damn mankind and his pollutin’ ways! We get out later Smith is some sort of freelance photojournalist doing a part on pollution and the environment, perhaps with the notion of making a incompatibility…which is beautiful, but I’m thinking if’n he really wanted to acquire a disagreement, he could originate by actually picking up the trash instead of unbiased taking pictures of it…oh well…anyway, Smith paddles his map out to opens waters where’s he promptly swamped by some a-hole and Joan Van Ark in a speedboat (the guy driving the boat was drinking a beer, and I kept expecting him to throw the empty over the side, you know, because man is so thoughtless with his end, but, surprisingly, it didn’t happen) . The couple, who happen to be brother and sister or something, steal Smith to a posh, gothic southern mansion on a nearby island owned by a curmudgeonly, crotchety, wheelchair plug wealthy industrialist named Jason Crockett (Milland), who’s currently in the middle of an annual 4th of July celebration/birthday bash that none of his relatives want to be at, but they like his money so they feel obligated to present up out of alarm that they may be neglected from the will…and there are quite a few of them, supplying quite the pool of future potential victims (when you’ve seen as many films as I have, this is how you tend to views things) . It’s about this time when we learn of Jason’s contemptuous attitudes towards nature (I obsolete one of his lines for the title of my review), including, but not itsy-bitsy to, heavy spraying and systematically poisoning of the position around his estate in order to preserve the `pests’ in check (I’m clear all that won’t reach abet to bite him in the bum) . I got news for you…it ain’t working as there’s about a bazillion reptilian and amphibious creatures crawling, hopping, slithering, sliming around the estate, their presence is becoming more and more intrusive…and then the deaths approach as Mother Nature (metaphorically speaking) commands her coast crawly denizens to fight and recall relieve what’s rightfully theirs…’Today the pond! Tomorrow the world!’

Okay, okay, this movie is elegant droll, but I was entertained specifically because I wasn’t expecting too worthy. By the time this film came out, the once noteworthy star area of Milland had been thoroughly (and sadly) subjugated into bloody submission, appearing in such cinematic fodder as The Premature Burial (1962), Fright in Year Zero! (1962), and Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963) …and his torturous inch into B movie Hell didn’t kill here, as he went on to appear in such classics like The Thing with Two Heads (1972), Panic in the Wax Museum (1973), and The Attic (1980) . His role here is sparkling great the same role he played throughout the latter section of his career, that of the controlling, stubborn, hurt in the rear, jerkhole whom you unbiased handsome grand want to throttle within an meander of his life from the git go…and he’s the most involving character in the film. Sam Elliot’s character is a snooze, basically acting as the soothsayer to Milland’s Julius Caesar, forewarning of the `Ides of March’ i.e. the impending invasion, that is when he’s not trying to exhaust the phone which he knows to be stupid because every damn time he picks it up it’s there’s never any connection. Another thing that annoyed me was there was one woman who did nothing but complain…perhaps she had a proper, as her husband was a philandering, drunken a-hole, but collected, it got veteran fairly speedy…and who dressed Miss Van Ark? That yellow one fraction has to be one of the most unflattering outfits I’ve ever seen. All factual, there weren’t a lot of likeable characters in this film, but that’s soon taken care of as the deaths near quickly and mad (usually due more to a character’s believe stupidity than anything else), by any number of various creepy crawlies, not unbiased frogs. The simplistic narrative moves along okay, riddled with continuity errors and an over abundance of nature shots (it was magnificent determined the frogs were either prodded or tossed into reaction within numerous scenes), but then sort of fizzles out at the kill…I contemplate my accepted scene involve terrible aged Iris…she really got the plump treatment, so to announce, during her climatic sequences…there were some expedient aspects about the film, like the overall atmosphere of the film, highlighted by Les Baxter’s spooky scoring.

Provided on this MGM release is both the widescreen (1.85:1) version, enhanced for 16 X 9 TVs, along with the fullscreen, pan & scan formats. The characterize quality is relatively favorable, but I did perceive a few flaws, and a couple of scenes were a bit grainy. The Dolby Digital mono audio comes through pleasing clearly. There really isn’t any special features, but there is a trailer, one that features one of the characters dying in a completely different manner than she did within the film…

Cookieman108

By the plot, if I learned anything from this movie it’s that if you’re running through the woods with a shotgun, best design determined the safety is on lest you accidentally kneecap yourself (Doh!) and score ate up by spiders…

The film itself gets 5 stars from me, but this DVD only 4. It is seriously lacking a commentary track, any subtitles, and is presented in burly frame instead of letterbox.

(UPDATE: The disc IS in widescreen, but is optimized for the newer widescreen TV sets, so you’ll have to re-set your DVD player’s output. Check the owner’s manual.)

But beggers can’t be choosers, and I’ve been begging someone, ANYONE, to secure a superb quality print of this long-suppressed film onto DVD. And this DVD is made from the master negative that has been in a vault for over 30 years!

After watching only pirated VHS copies and badly used Canadian releases for so long, this film looks and sounds new and crisp.

For those uninitiated to this film, or the book it is based upon, here’s a speedily summary…

A White U.S. Senator, looking to improve his standing among Shadowy voters, sponsors a drive for the CIA to recruit Dark agents. However, everyone is graded on a curve, so all are condemned to flunk…build for soft-spoken Dan Freeman. After going through grueling training in self-defence, guerilla warfare and underground operations, he is recruited to be a “reproduction chief” (he runs a photocopier in the sub-basement), and serves the CIA as a token Sad employee (the term “spook” aged here is both a racial slur, and a slang term for a inspect) .

After 5 years, he leaves the CIA to work in his native Chicago for a social services agency…by day. By night, he’s using his CIA training to dispute a street gang to be the vanguard in an upcoming hurry war…

Understandably, this film raised a lot of fears among Whites when released, and despite box office success, it vanished from distribution after only three weeks. The film-makers relate it was pressure on the film’s distributors by the FBI and their COINTELPRO program against Dark Nationalist groups.

Long available only on bootleg video copies and screened only on college campuses, it became an underground classic. And now, it’s legitimately available on DVD.

The DVD includes the rarely seen coming attractions trailer and TV plot, as well as interviews with the book’s author, Sam Greenlee (in his 70’s and detached as vocal as he ever was!) and film-maker Robert Townsend, who says that this film literally changed his life.

Believe the hype! This film was made against the odds (The producer struggled unprejudiced to effect payroll, and the outdoor scenes in Chicago were shot without permits!), and despite the years, has not lost any of it’s punch!

In short: Grasp it now!

In 2004 this movie is aloof too provactive and progressive for some people,(Hence the ancient apologia at the beginning of the movie, inserted to downplay the strong political tone of the film) . Yet it should be required viewing for all of us. Written Produced, Arranged, Peaceful, Directed and Financed by us. That’s the ONLY scheme we will ever perceive genuine strong images about African-American people on the mammoth cloak.

I caught this extraordinary production when it was on television here in Canada last year. At the time, I own it was only available on DVD in the UK, so to explore that it will be released in North America is mammoth!

This is a beautifully produced account for children and adults alike. Worthy spend was made of computer imaging and, as a result, the live-action characters spy like they are walking through a world of paintings. The comely, haunting soundtrack of songs that complement the scenes in the movie only adds to the artistic quality of the work.

I highly recommend it.

Finally a computer generated allotment of illustrative fiction that is haunting and pretty and very great like paintings near to life. The dreamlike imagery and handsome soundtrack build for a must have annual Christmas prove for adults and children. Truly glowing!

When I first got my DVD, I knew I fair had to have this! I’ve been a fan of “The Honeymooners” for as long as I can remember (I’m currently 22) and I knew I would devour this DVD very mighty! And I really do. It’s something that a fan of Jackie Gleason and “The Honeymooners” should have in their collection. My pickle with the DVD lies in the fact that two of the programs on here, “Funniest Moments Vol. 1 and Vol. 2″ have already been released on video, and infact are in my video collection. These are nice programs to view if you’re eager in not unprejudiced “Honeymooners” clips, but also clips of Reggie Van Gleason, Joe the Bartender, and other classic Jackie Gleason characters. The third program is one that I had not seen before, “The Wit and Wisdom of Ed Norton,” which is a salute to our approved sewer worker. Again, a very nice program with some heavenly well-behaved clips. The final program is “Letter To The Boss,” which is an entire “Honeymooners” skit from November 14, 1953. This is one of the first “long” skits featuring these characters, and while this is a nice one to feature, there probably are better skits to spend. However, the quality is nice and definite (for a kinescope) but why unbiased demonstrate the skit? Would it have injure MPI to release the entire “Jackie Gleason Present” from that week with the June Taylor Dancers and Gleason’s monologue included, as well as credits and commercials? That would have made this an automatic 5 stars! I reflect this is worth having, but like my title says, a honorable initiate to introducing a classic to the digital age.

Before I finish, I would honest like to mention that there are several “tranquil lost” episodes in the vaults. These include the novel “Honeymooners Slither To Europe” shows performed live in 1957, and the performed again in 1966 from Miami. These 1957 shows feature Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph (while the laters would have Sheila MacRae and Jane Kean) and these have not been seen since their recent airing in 1957. If MPI wants to release a really huge, distinguished DVD situation, then let’s suggest releasing these lost gems!

I was disapointed with this DVD collection! Included are 3 clip collection segments, “Funniest Moments Vol. 1 & 2″, “The Wit & Wisdom Of Ed Norton”, and the chubby length episode “Letter To The Boss” Now, as a fan of the note, these characters, and actors who describe them I was entertained viewing this DVD. However, this does not narrate the very best of the Honeymooners as the title states! A major portion of the Funniest Moments bits include bloopers which in most cases they are not at their very best! I would suggest that anyone who is viewing “The Honeymooners” for the first time behold the “Unusual 39″ episodes which are available on another collection. “The Very Best Of The Honeymooners” is best viewed by fans who have a knowledge of the history of the point to and Jackie Gleason.

The page says “discontinued by manufacturer” but that’s not just, it has been released in Europe and the international version will follow over the next 6 months into 2009 though there may be some variation on the bonus tracks and or sub titles depending which fragment of the world you are in.

Andre Rieu is currently the worlds biggest act,and 500 people have to go on tour with him. His son is in charge of the spacious logistics EG the first Melbourne concert

Nov 13th 09 was no exception where a massive 6 million dollar replica of a Austrian Palace was recreated complete with an ice rink & ballroom! The sheer scale is fabulous.

Live in Maastrich 11 is in my conception is his best DVD so far it’s a total package and the guest acts often remove the note,in this case 13 year primitive

Melissa Venema who plays “Il Silenzio” on the trumpet!! Incredible! The other precise high point is the performance with the world-famous Mastreechter Staar male speak choir, I know that a lot of critics say Rieu is a bit like a highly sophisticated version of the “Wiggles for adults” constant action, variety, humour but all sizable fun. Ok maybe, but it’s serene the best breathtaking showbiz experience on the Planet

‘Live in Maastricht II’ is a must gawk for anyone that likes Andre Rieu.

The entire production is respectable. This is Andre at his best.

The highlight for me is Melissa Venema who plays “Il Silenzio” on the trumpet!! This diminutive gal is only 13 years worn and plays solo trumpet better than anyone I have ever heard.

The recent singer Mirusia Louwerse does tremendous with “Ave Maria”.

My copy was ordered from the ‘Andre Rieu’ website in Holland and I would guess it will be available in the American market before too long.

I would rate this at ten stars but they only let me do five.
