The first thing on every gamers list of stuff to buy for their custom gaming rig is the video card. This one device is what will make your games look beautiful or look like something that runs on an Atari.

One of the many considerations for this item is it's price to performance ratio. One could go off and buy an nVidia 8800GTX for $600 and have top of the line graphics, but for many of us we are stuck getting the best for about $150-200.

The XFX 7900GS immediately stuck out as a card that will do what one would need it to, and last for about one to one and a half years while still running most games at least on medium graphical settings.

The XFX 7900GS Extreme Edition is a pre-overclocked version of the 7900GS. It comes with 256mb GDDR3 memory running at 1550mhz, up from the standard 1320mhz. The GPU core runs at 525mhz, up from the standard 450mhz. These were both later able to be overclocked to 610mhz core and 1800mhz memory.

Upon first receiving the card you will notice the black color of the card, this is a rather interesting feature seeing that not many video cards actually have any real look to them color wise anywhere but the heat sink and fan. The black color of the card is a nice accent to some computer cases as well as the other parts. The card also comes with a DVI-VGA adapter for those of you still using CRT monitors, as well as an S-Video cable so that you can hook your computer up to your TV or whatever may have an S-Video input. It also comes with a 6 pin PCI-E to 4 pin molex connector so that older systems can connect to power the card without the PCI-E connector.

This card requires Windows XP to run and also supports Windows Vista. You will need at least a 450W power supply in your computer to keep sufficient power to the card. For older systems without the PCI-E connector you will need two 4 pin molex connectors to be free to power the card. You will also need a PCI-E x16 slot to put the card into, so that means if you have an AGP board it's probably time to upgrade.

The install of the card was relatively straight foreword, the card is a bit long because the power cord is running into the cables going to the hard drives in my case. The drivers installed in a few minutes and it was ready to go.

This card performs phenomenally in almost every game that it was tested on. The first game it was tested on was Counter Strike Source, with the settings cranked up to maximum in every category and V-sync turned off the video stress test showed 120fps. It also performed very well in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, with all settings turned up and HDR on without AA, the game ran anywhere from 15fps to 40fps outdoors and 40-120fps indoors. The only problem this card has in oblivion is that when there are NPCs in the view the game slows down by about 5-7fps. Every other game it was tested on was able to max out the graphical settings with little or no slow down at all.

The Games this Card was tested on are as follows.
Half Life 2
Counter Strike Source
Oblivion
Battlefield 2142
Battlefield 2
Call of Duty 2
Need For Speed: Most Wanted
Need For Speed: Carbon
Halo PC
Roller coaster Tycoon 3
Company of Heroes
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
FEAR
Farcry

When it comes time to update the drivers for this card you will have to get the drivers from the XFX website, this is because the forceware drivers on nVidia's website the drivers do not recognize the card as being there, this is a bit frustrating because you will not always have the most up to date drivers.

The installation of the drivers for Windows Vista was relatively straight foreword, the card performs very well in the desktop environment but when it comes time to run games it all goes downhill. When this card was tested with the Video stress test on Counter Strike Source it only managed to get 55fps, this is a drastic drop from where it benchmarked on Windows XP, however this card was not tested with anything else in Vista.

Overall the XFX 7900GS video card is an excellent deal and a high performer for a low price. It handles absolutely everything thrown at it and still has a lot of overhead for more overclocking than what the stock overclock is.

Traditionally, when setting out to write a term paper, students start with research. If you want to get your paper done faster, however, do it the other way around.

Here's how to do it.

First, do a lot of thinking about what you are going to write about. If possible, pick something you already know a little about. Or a lot about even, if that's possible. But more importantly, pick something that you think might interest you. The more interest you have, the easier the paper will be to write. And the easier it is to write, the faster it will go.

Once you have your topic picked, start with the following outline:

- Introductory Paragraph

- Body of your paper

- Closing

Your introductory paragraph should state very clearly whatever it is your paper is going to be about. Write it the way you would if you were going to tell someone about it out loud. Use a tape recorder if that will help.

The body of your paper is obviously the main text of your term paper.

The closing is basically a rehash of your introductory paragraph, with some restatements of what you also said in the body of your paper.

Once you have your outline written, expand the body section by writing down a bunch of things you think ought to be in the paper. Use bullets, notes, ideas, questions, cartoons, whatever pops into your head about your topic. You might even talk to other people about it to get their thoughts, or to cause more to pop into your own head.

Next, begin writing your paper. Freestyle. Seriously, just sit down and start writing. Write as much as you possibly can without using any references at all. This way, you will write what you want to say, and it will go a lot faster than trying to rephrase what everybody else has already written on this topic. It will make the paper more unique and interesting too, which should help with the final grade.

Once you have completely exhausted every idea on the subject, put the paper away for awhile. This is assuming you have more than just a couple of hours before it is due.

As you go through your day, you'll most likely have ideas pop into your head. Jot them down right away before you forget. Then, when you come back to your paper, add those new things you thought of.

Then, once you have everything on this topic you have to offer, take a good hard look at what you've written. This is a very critical part. You need to make sure there is a beginning, middle and an end. Just like if you had written a story. Each of your ideas needs to start out with a statement of some sort, followed by something that backs it up. And then, each of your ideas and backing statements need to be in some sort of sequential order that will make sense to whoever will be reading your work.

Once you have finished editing your work, it's time to start your research. Most of it can be done online. Make sure you mark down your resources as you go. You don't want to have to go back and look them up again.

As you're doing your research, try to find articles that will back up what you've written already on your own. In this way, you are taking the opposite approach that is normally taught. Instead of you backing up what others have said, you will be using other's to back up what you have said.

Also, to bolster the strength of your paper, you'll have to read what others have written, just as you would have had you taken the usual research first approach. The time for this should be greatly reduced however, because by this point in your paper, you already know what you want to say.

Then, once you have the body of the paper filled out, go back and check over your intro and closing. Add more if necessary, and that should be it.

If you use this method to write your term papers, it shouldn't take you any longer than a few days.

Good luck.

Tea is one of healthiest beverages in the world that takes second place after the water. Yogis use hot water to activate life energy “prana”, and to awaken natural body's ability to get rid of toxins. With added benefits of a particular tea, hot water is infused with a special health - promoting abilities.

White tea plant is known to have more buds than leaves. Because only the tiny, undamaged leaves with silver hair are picked during the start of two days per year, it makes white tea higher in price. The highest quality and most expensive white tea is named “Silver Needle”. Collectors of white Silver Needle tea are required to withhold from eating garlic, have alcohol or other strong- smelling substances prior to picking, for it is believed that tiny silver buds will easily absorb smells and loose its perfect quality.

Tiny silver buds are being considered to be the most unprocessed part of a plant. Its strong healing properties white tea has due to its minimum processing after picking: for thee days buds will be left indoors to wither, while perfect temperature, humidity and air flow are being maintained for perfect maturity.

White tea is called in China “elixir of immortality” and becoming more popular among tea-lovers. Previously white tea was used only among Chinese upper class and the Emperor himself for thousands of years. White tea was exported worldwide after 1891 and is used globally.

Until this day many Americans and scientist debate whether fish oil does indeed help lower cholesterol. This question has been controversial for many years. Some says there are indeed pros and cons to the Omega- 3s in fish oil. On the market today you can buy over thirty Omega-3 fish oil products that claim to lower cholesterol. Question is can Omega-3 oils really lower your cholesterol level?

One study shows that replacing meat with fish can indeed lower cholesterol levels. This is often times proven to be true although you can also lower cholesterol by replacing meat with beans or other foods that may be low in saturated fat.

Yet another more recent study by David J. Becker indicates using Omega-3 fish oil supplements with a change in diet and exercise habits can also reduce and ultimately be a substitute for cholesterol lowering medications.

According to Dr. William Davis Omega-3 fatty acids in reality do not actually raise cholesterol but may appear to raise your cholesterol levels. To many this may sound a little confusing. Many ask why your cholesterol would appear to rise when it actually isn't is a very good question that has yet to be discovered. Dr. Davis also states that Omega-3 fatty acids have proven to show a reduced risk of stroke, heart attack, and reduce triglycerides.

Other studies have shown that fish oils will lower cholesterol by reducing the “bad” cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol which causes cholesterol to sky rocket. This study also shows Omega-3 fish oils to reduce plasma triglyceride and increase the production of good cholesterol which is your high density lipoprotein.

Although many people will still argue their case there are more people who believes Omega-3 fish oils do indeed lower cholesterol by replacing bad cholesterol with the good cholesterol. In order for this to happen study show that you must include at least 100 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids into your diet a day. This must be done with a change in diet and exercise. You can either take a Omega-3 fatty acid or as previously stated substitute meat for fish, beans and other foods that are high in saturated fat. By doing this you can immensely lower your cholesterol by up to 11% in as little as a year.

I would have to agree that Omega-3 fatty acids can undeniably lower cholesterol levels with the right diet and fitness plan.

Exquisite stories on flower by a florist in Singapore

More than 2,000 years ago, well before the time of Christ, the pagan peoples of eastern Europe - in the areas that are now the Ukraine, Russia, parts of Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania and Belorussia, among others - began the craft of Psanky (the singular is Psanka), or making Ukrainian Easter eggs. Of course, in the beginning, they weren't “Easter” eggs.

To those who made them, eggs symbolized the rebirth and renewal of the earth in springtime, following often harsh winters, and they brought the promise of new life, new hope, fertility, and prosperity. When Christianity entered the area, it co-opted the making of Psanky, as it has so many other traditions, and gave the eggs the new meaning of the Resurrection and Eternal Life. As you see, the old and new meanings are closely related, so the ancient symbols translated well into Christianity.

Symbols

When designing Psanky, or Ukrainian Easter Eggs, a number of traditional individual designs are used, along with colors which also have specific meanings, to create an overall pattern for the Psanky creator, or its recipient. In recent times, some new designs, such as a heart representing love have been added, but the traditional patterns have been used for the past two millenia. I learned most of the design element meanings below, as well as color symbolism, in a course taught by Luba Dvirnak at Bismarck State College (then Bismarck Junior College) in 1982. The majority of the patterns today represent ideas from Christianity; their oldest meanings, though, are pre-Christian.

More pattern information can be found on the web site www.learnpsanky.com , a web site created and maintained by Ann Morash (specifically the page www.learnpsanky.com/symbols.html ). I purchase my supplies online from the Ukrainian Gift Shop (www.ukrainiangiftshop.com ), which has a store in Roseville, Minnesota. The store was begun by Marie Procai, an immigrant from the Ukraine who brought her love of Psanky with her to the U.S.; she opened the first store in the living room of her home near the University of Minnesota with the help of her daughter, Luba Perchyshyn. Marie passed away in 1993; the on-line store is maintained by Luba and her children, Natalie and Elko, along with the help of her grandchildren in their “busy season.” Luba's pamphlet “How to Decorate Beautiful Ukrainian Easter Eggs 'Psanky'” (no publication date is given in the pamphlet) can be purchased at their on-line store, and some of her symbols and colors are shown on the gift shop website.

Symbols
The rose is a symbol of Christ, but also a symbol for flowers; its other meanings are love and caring. Like the rose, the Eight-Pointed Star on a Psanky is also a symbol of Christ. The star can also be called the sun and stars; in this Ukrainian depiction, it can represent life, fortune, and growth.

Wheat sheafs or grains on Psanky symbolize desire for a good harvest and good health. Other plants depicted include pine trees or pine needles; the pine needle design is very common in egg borders. The pine represents eternal life to Christians; traditionally it represented eternal youth, along with stamina and health. Poppies, a popular feature in almost all Ukrainian art, represents joy and beauty; unnamed flowers express the feminine side of the divine, as well as wisdom, elegance, and beauty. Flowers may also mean life and growth. A final plant that appears on some Psyanky is the laden grapevine; the grapes symbolize the “fruit” by which good Christians are known; they may also represent the wine from the sacrament of Communion.

Geometric shapes are also found on Psanky. Triangles, which are sometimes shown cross-hatched and looking almost like a basket, represent the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. in ancient times, they represented other trinities such as fire, water, and air; heaven, hell, and earth; or mother, maiden, and crone. If a triangle contains a circle, that circle represents the Eye of God. Another geometric shape is the Net, which appears as a cross-hatched diamond. Diamonds alone usually represent knowledge, but when cross-hatched as the net, they carry a Christian meaning, the “net” of which Jesus spoke when he told the disciples he would make them “fishers of men.” Probably the most important geometric Psanky design is the cross, which can be shown as the traditional cross shape, with the cross-bar about a third of the way down from the top, or a “Double cross” that creates a square in the center, and often has little scrolls at the end of each arm. On today's Psanky, it represents Christ, or his sacrifice and resurrection. It may also represent the Four Corners of the World, which Christ instructed his followers to go to, to spread His word.

Another popular Psanky design theme are animals. A deer or horse, or sometimes a ram, represents wealth and prosperity, just as it did in pagan times. Fish are now popular representations of Christians or Christianity. Birds are very common, and they are almost always shown at rest. Traditionally they represented fertility and the fulfillment of wishes; on some modern Psanky they are shown as white doves and represent the Holy Spirit. Portions of birds, such as feet (a v-shape with an upright line in the center) representing spirit, or rooster combs, representing masculinity, can also appear.

Psanky borders, done around the long oval of the egg between the “pictures” on each side, also contain a number of different symbols. The ladder represents prayer, or prosperity. Curls or whirled lines can indicate defense or protection. The Saw, also called Wolves' Teeth, a jagged “toothy” line, on a Psanky can mean fire or heat, or loyalty and wisdom. Border ribbons on Psanky can be wave-like, usually indicating water, or baptismal water (”the water of eternal life”), or can be more like a Greek key design, symbolizing wisdom and eternity.

The Meaning of Colors

The colors used in Psanky art also have symbolic meaning. The lighter colors, including white, yellow, and gold, usually represent light, purity, and joy. White alone represents virginity; yellow an indicate the sun and stars, or the harvest, while gold on Psanky represents both spirituality and wisdom.

Orange symbolizes the everlasting sun (now the Son), as well as both endurance and ambition. Red, shown alone on Psanky, indicates blood, fire, and passion, as well as happiness and hope. It may also indicate Christian ministry, depending on the symbols it is used with. When red is used together with white, the meaning is both respect, and a more superstitious protection from evil or evil powers, such as the evil eye. On a Psanky, a white circle in a red triangle, for example, represents the All-seeing Eye of God, but that eye brings protection against the evil eye of a witch or sorceror.

Blue almost always symbolizes the sky on Psanky, as well as the clean air that accompanies the sky. Other blue meanings are health, loyalty, and truth. From its earliest beginning, green on Psanky represents spring and new life; since the Christian era began it has come to represent the resurrection as well. It aslo means freedom from bondage, new growth, and wealth.

Pink has become a more popular color on Psanky in recent years. It usually represents success and contentment, although depending on the symbolism it is used with, it can also represent the female aspect of nature. Purple always represents royalty, and on Psanky it usually means the True King, Jesus, or God. I can also symbolize the fasting of lent, or faith and trust in God.

I personally haven't seen as much brown on Psanky recently as I did twenty years ago. Brown represents the earth, the harvest, and generosity. It is sometimes seen with the wheat design, and is often the color of the deer or horse figure. Black can indicate the darkness of the earth before Christianity; the “darkness before dawn,” or the center of the earth. Black used together with white can indicate mourning, and offer respect to the spirit of the one who has passed from earthly life.

One last note on color, which I learned from the class I took and which is repeated by Luba Perchyshyn, is that when four or more colors are used together in a design, it indicates peace, love, and especially a happy family.

To learn more about the history and symbology of Psanky, check out the resources listed below, and mentioned above in the introduction, or visit your local library or senior center.
